I have been given a 55,I am going to use it as a sump for my new tank.
But on closer inspection it looks as though some of the seals betwen the panes of glass may have gone.ceratinly around the top of the tank there is at least two of the seals that have come away to around 2" down.you can see the silicon colour changes where the bond has seperated.I can also see a couple of patches near where the uprights join the base.
I dont havce any problem reasealing the tank but not sure if that will surfice and would hate the tank to burst once inuse as a sump as it would mean a lot of water on the floor. So would you suggest rebuilding it or resealing it,I know that rebuilding is more complicated than just resealing but I am confident in my DIY skills so what would you do.

I have sealed several tanks and have not had any problems. You just need to make sure you scrape away all old sealant and dirt. It is important to take your time.

Not to worried about the process of resealing as I think I can do that no problem,My concern is that the seems between the panes may have seperated in a couple of places and going to the trouble of resealing if the tank actually need a complete rebuild is a waste of time,as it is going to be a sump for a 250 I would rather be certain the tank will hold.
Does anyone have any experience stripping the tank right down and then rebuilding?
