So.. I have a 55 to fill and I am looking to possibly make a river like setup with sponge filters on one side connected by pvc under the gravel to the other side with power heads to make a short 4 foot river type aquarium.

I am wondering what I can stock it with? Something natural to a river that wouldn't mind moving water all the time.

Hill stream loaches sound awesome but I have no idea what else I can stock it with. I am undecided on the plants but I will probably have some sort. Maybe wont have a heater.

Let me know what you think.

for all cold water tanks i suggest sculpin. lol.
not too many people raise these mini monsters.

Maybe not that cold. more like 70ish. I am not sure on the room temp in the dorm I can find out and post that in a bit.

So yes I am leaning towards a hillstream tank now. Way too many options lol I've been thinking all day long. Who knows all the different loaches I can put in here lol. Maybe some clown too!

A school of clowns needs a lot more space than a 55 gallon.

Darters (Etheostoma and Percina species) and dace (Chrosomus(formerly Phoxinus), Clinostomus, and Rhinichthys species) are rheophilic North American species which do well in a hillstream setup. They are fairly peaceful, though darters can be territorial, and should get along just fine with loaches.

I was meaning like 3 loaches. I would have a larger home for them by the time they grew. They are about 3-4 inches now for 7 bucks at the LFS
