hello everybody i have a new 55 gallon, and was wondering about stocking suggestions,...was thinking tiger oscar, convict...and maybe firemouth..but could somebody give me some suggestions..then i was thinking jd, gt, and convict....need help..plz reply!:1zhelp:

Oscar only or GT only. Maybe sqeeze in a tankmate with the GT but it might get killed or you might have water quality problems if WCs aren't frequent. I wouldn't recommend you get an oscar they grow to big and can't turn in a 12.5" wide tank. I would say nothing under 75 gallons for and Oscar. I would say a JD and a con could work or instead of the con an FM. What about severums like a green or Rotkeil. You can fit a pair of sevs in there as long as the don't get over 9". What about a Salvini, Con, FM mix with some bottom dwellers like a B-nose pleco.

I'm looking at doing 55 gallon with a convict, firemouth, jewel cichlid and probably Tiger Barbs for ditherfish. I might even throw in something to help eat algae and take care of food on the bottom. I'm thinking that if I do it right, I should be able to pull this off. I'll leave lots of hiding places. I'll get the barbs pretty large and before the cichlids are put in.

JDs would be a good choice and I was thinking about those for my 55 gallon. However, the wife wants more fish in there besides 1 or 2. I've had an Oscar in a 55 gallon and he was 11" mouth to tail. He never had a problem turning around. I also haven't seen that many Oscars get much over 12". I think in a 55 Gallon Oscars typically have more problems with water quality and it causes stunted growth.

You'd want a dog to grow to its fullest potential right? (except for Great Danes) Then why not provide that for a fish? A 75 is the minimum for an adult oscar.

What Cross said, Cons, FM's, Plecs, etc could be a great mix.

I like this ... Though I would switch the Cons with Archocentrus centrarchus :D
