I have a aquatop cf500 cannister and emperor 400 filtering my 55 for now going to be getting a 75 soon should I upgrade the emperor to a aqua clear 110? Thinking of doing sand too, not super fine sand but big enough so it doesn't get in the filters, is there a big difference in maintenance with sand? I have a jack Dempsey, fire mouth, red Texas, bristle nose, sun cat, ebjd, yellow dwarf convict, and an African hybrid I had since a baby from an old tank

suggestion .. if you are already planning an upgrade ,, get the biggest tank that you can house and afford.. you have enough filtration to handle 100 gallons .. put you money into a 90 gallon or a 5 ft. tank (or bigger),, take it from a guy with 6 tanks , bigger tanks end up less expensive than more tanks ,per gallon:)

I used to have a 180 but that was a few years ago and about a 75 is my max butI could probably get away with a 90

Or a 120 or 150..4" footprint.. There are 120 gallon tanks that are in the 60"/5' footprint..:) I think the 400 is a good filter.. A used 110 is also an option..

90 and 75 have the same area. 90 is just taller.

Not always. There is a 60"x18"18" 90 gallon, but sadly you aren't seeing these much anymore. But we've had a few on craiglist lately so they are still out there.

Well typically they are then :-p. 55 to 75 isn't huge but it is differently noticeable. That 12 inch to 18 inch width difference is pretty big.
