I have a pair of dovii/wolf cichlids that have spawned and produced around 100 fry which have now been free swimming for almost a week. I intend to remove the fry before mom and dad decide to eat them, so I bought some sponge filters and a heater, and I set up a 55 gallon I had lying around for the babies. My queston is whether this is too big of a tank for fish this small. One thread I found on here recommended using a 5 or 10 gallon tank to keep the food density high, but I already have the 55 gallon up and running. Any advice would be appreciated. I should have my first batch of baby brine hatched in the next few hours for feeding btw, and I have been crushing up Hikari cichlid gold pellets and sprinkling them over the fry while I wait for the brine to hatch btw. Thanks in advance for your input. I LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE this forum btw!

EDIT: If 55g is too much, how about just dropping the water level down halfway, making it more like 25 gallons? I already spent money on the air pump, filters, and heater. It would be a shame to waste it...

it should be fine. But have no gravel in it.

Why no gravel? I feel like such a noob! I've been keeping cichlids for over 10 years, but this is the first time I've attempted to breed any. It's been a good learning experience so far though.

it will be better for the fry to get the food and easy to clean.
