$550 dollar gas bill

Yeah, I got my gas bill last week and it was $550.
We have gas HVAC and water heater..

I called the gas company and asked them to send someone to re-read the meter. A guy came and said it was correct. So I told him he was full of it. My gas bill has never been above 50 dollars. So yesterday I got a free water heater from the power company. They have a deal where if you switch from gas water heaters they give you a free electric one. So I installed that bad boy today (works great by the way). Now I have just a few little ceramic electric heaters in the house. Between my 78 degree fish tanks running and my little heaters, it's very comfortable in the house.

So basically I want to give a big F-U !* to the gas company.

I'm going to get a new electric furnace tomorrow for $75 from a friend.
Then I will be all set for next winter.


p.s. The gas company said they can change rates at any time without telling you. Since its regulated by the government.

When I asked them to explain my gas usage to me, they had no real explanation why it was so high. They said I probably have a leak in my lines. I told them to go jump off a cliff... after I checked my gas lines, of course.

Same thing happened to my brother. He paid a certain amount all the time and then one month he got a huge bill that was like 3-4 times higher. There was no explanation either.

Yeah man its ridiculous. I'm trying to play house here making ends meet and the gas company throws me a curve ball. But I bypassed the ordeal for about 100 dollars. I'm just glad to have an alternative to choose from.

Does your gas company use remote reading meters or do they have to come out to the house. If they come out, most utilities only read meters every other month or so and estimate the months in between. But a jump like that should be investigated by the company.

They come out to the house every month. I see the guy. In fact he came today to see if I had cut the lock on the valve since he knows I have gas water and heat.

I'm no thief. But I'm not paying $550 dollars to appease their fake billing department. They can report it to my credit.. like I care.. its already ruined anyways.

couldn't you do an equal billing plan, so its basically the same every month? thats what I do, so no surprises..

if its around $100 each month, they can't turn around and say I all of a sudden used $500 worth of gas..

It was an option when we moved in. The people who lived here before showed us gas bills and they were very low. So we just decided to do regular billing.

all utilities are going up, now you will be gouged by the electric sompany, there is no cheap alternative
