550 GPH with 1" PVC overflow?

but you have to take bends and other restrictions into consideration. If it's a DIY overflow I would make 2 1" ones to flow that much just to be safe.

is this just by gravity or if you hook up a water pump to 1" returns will it be restricted to 600 gph aswell?

I have a 1" overflow on my tank and a pump pushing 600 gph up a couple feet. I think the conversion brought it down to 500 GPH and my 1" overflow keeps up very well.
 
so if you have an overflow of 1 1/4" how many gallons per hour does that do? and what size pump do you need to keep up with it?
