It all depends... What types of mbuna, what filtering do you have, how often will you be willing to change water, etc

I have a 30gal with 4 africans(red top zebra, johanni, 2 OB haps) and 2 americans(convict, salvini), I m having a lot of problems with it, please advice me what can be the best among the two options: Removing all the Africans and the Salvini, and adding a Firemouths with a school of tiger barbs or removing the Americans adding more Africans(coz they do well in crowded crowded conditions) with a Fluidized bed Filter(not necessary for small tanks, I consider it handy in crowded African tank) to take up the heavy bioload. In this case what other Africans to add and how many of them?

Don't mix continents of cichlids - its just asking for problems. They require different water types and dietary needs. 30 gallons are small for Africans unless you have experience and know your fish.

I don't know American cichlids that well - so I'll leave that for someone else to comment on.

If you go African - look into Lab. caeruleus, Ps. demasoni, Ps. saulosi, or even some Cyno. afra species.

Thanks spyder, but for water parameters, I just add water dont care a bit for that, its a bit hard, and they are thriving in there. For diet I feed spirulina pellets & flakes to all of them as a staple diet, and also give them a weekly treat of worms, shrimps, etc.
Only their temperments doesnt match over here. I need advice specifically about crowding them and also on Fluidized bed filters.

Heres the full view of the tank, taken two months back which had more cichlids that time.

i think the Salvini will be much happier in a bigger tank. I have one in GO w/ my turtle that will eventually go to my friend in a 75. I needed something to clean up after the turtle when he eats. All the africans I've tried got to aggressive towards the turtle and had to go. The Sal. seems a lot more mellow and actually likes hanging out w/ the turtle.
