I plan on using my 55g to grow out some fish I been always wanting to have together. The fish will all be around half a inch. I have two questions: How long to let them grow out before adding them to the bigger tank(Like what size to let them get to)? and also how big of a tank would I need for the fish? here is my Selection plan.

1-Male GT
2-Male Cons(One Striped and One Pink)
1-Jack Dempsey(Female or Male?)
1 Firemouths
1 Severum

Filtration I will be using is for the 55g growout will be an AC70 and a Emperor 350 Biowheel.

what size tank would they all require?

yeah I think a 125 would probably work and I'd put them in the larger tank sooner rather than later. 1.5-2" would be fine. However I would add a school of some sort of cheap schooling fish or maybe some livebearers to add some action to the tank. This will help reassure the juvenile cichlids that it's safe to be out and about and not hide from larger predators that they think might be around.

I would think a 125 would be suitable as well. A friend of mine has a very similar set up almost just like the one you are describing but with a couple more fish and it works great in his 125. Good luck!

They will be fine until around 4" thats when i find aggression usually starts.

I have been growing out Africans, Centrals and Souths together in my 100g for the last year, ready to go in my 180g, as long as you keep the tank bare, they have nothing to claim as territory.

i agree

i hoping to grow them out in the 55g for about 6 months. Do you think all these fish could be compatible? Like the GT and JD.
