Hi there i recently bought a 2inch GT from Petsmart. The fish is healthy and in good condition. Anyway i want to create a GT community tank with the GT being the centre piece. Now i have an arowana in there htat will probably go to a new home if i cant get my 180g going. Also got 2 african cichlids in three from my last move.
What kind of fish can possibly be good for my tank.
55g 48x12x21
The tank is rdy and has been running for months.
I was thinking:
Green terror x1
Firemouth x1
clown loach x4
tiger barb x5-7
What do you think?

Sound good to me.... You should upgrade to a bigger tank as the gt grows he will need 75 gallon... But that will take a whule they grow slow and are very nice fish...

Just saw you wanted 4 clown loaches.... You will need a way bigger tank fo all these fish clown loaches can reach 12 iches, gt's cab reach 10-12 inches the firemouth will be ok in the 55 for life... In the future a 125 gallon tank will be needed but luckily these fish grow slow so you will have time to upgrade

It'll work for a a short while. The GT will eventually need a bigger tank in 6-8 months, especially if you're looking to at those other fish. Same thing happened to me. Figure the GT will grow at a rate of about an 3/4 of an inch a month.

Thats good to hear. I have a spare 120g in my garage'. Its old and a has a dent. But it hold water and i ca fix it good as new.

Anyway i wanted to talk about the aggresion. Will the Gt rule the tank or stay mellow and calm?

it dpends gt's have a wide range of aggresion levels for example my big female is scared as hell of anything that moves outside the glass my little 3'' already flares at me.. i will be uploading a vid of it in a little..... so it all depends on fish........ if it wants too the gt should have no problem ruling the tank and even killing its tankmates...

I say a 55g is fine for ONE male GT and no more other fish. A community Setting I think you would have to upgrade.

GT would probably be okay with everything except the firemouth. GT tend to be very aggressive with other cichlids from my experience.

I have a pair of GTs in a 55 that can be moved to a 125 if needed. They've been in there for quite a while though and are doing great. For what it's worth.

IMO 55g is a bit small. I had a male alone in a 120g. It was only 8" and already made the tank look small. I think a 75g would be much better, and your 120 would be better still ;)

Your clown loaches are not going to get to 12" anytime soon. A FM may or may not work...I'd say give it a try but be ready to remove it.
