55g protien skimmer

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
not really going to be a very efficient skimmer. Honestly i think a seaclone would be better then them. both skimmers are made by the same company. IMO a skimmer is not a must have, but if you are going to get one, then you might want to save some dollars and get one that is well known in the hobby. For smaller budgets the BakPak is a good brand, and they work rather well. Also coralifes skimmer works very well for the price as well. After that you really get into the higher models were cost can be a lot different. Those two mentioned skimmer get my vote for best cost savings and best performance.

Hey guys,
im setting up a new salt tank and was wondering if this would be a good skimmer for a 55g tank? its going to be live rock and fish only tank with messy eating fish like puffers and a spotted grouper.
Here is the skimmer. http://www.drsfostersmith.com/product/prod_display.cfm?c=3578+4392+4427&pcatid=4427

No experience with it but doesn't look to good I would recommend this skimmer instead I have used it and it is AWESOME http://www.drsfostersmith.com/product/prod_display.cfm?c=3578+4392+13924&pcatid=13924

You'll want the 65 skimmer it will be sufficient enough for your tank.

some people CAN get away without a skimmer but they do a 10% water change weekly and have a canister filter, live rock, and sand. It is possible but I still choose to use the skimmer cause you just never know what is gonna happen day to day with a salt tank. I still recommend using one it'll pay off in the end for you.

as for now i just have a pump and a canister filter. and the water circulation looks to be very strong considering that the pump is very old. i will more than likely get some kinda of skimmer soon. i will get a few damsels as soon as i can get to the store in a day or two. anyone know of any good places with cheap live rock?

I would just shop the internet for live rock you really don't need to use damsel's to cycle the tank and be stuck with the damsel curse. When you get your live rock in a few week's it will cycle nicely and you can use the space for better fish then a damsel, just be patient with the cycling it is a pain. You can read more on my blog about cycling if interested.
