55G Setup Questions

Here's the tank setup.

6 Yellow Labs
3 Red Zebra
1 Fuelleborni
1 Mbamba
1 Elongatus Chewere
1 Melanochromis Maingino
1 Nyererei Red
1 Zebra Obliquiden

There all male cichlids. I'm going for an all-male color tank. I want to transfer those fish from the tank I already have into a 55g and here is my question.

If I put a FX5 Canister Filter on a 55g with the above fish in the tank, how many times a month would I have to perform water changes? How long could I go without a water change? I don't mind performing water changes at all, doesn't bother me a bit. But i'm wondering for other purposes such as vacations, holidays away from home, etc. What's the longest period of time I can go without a water change in a 55g with that great filter.

I am not sure about the sizes of all the fish, so I will just assume you did research and they will all fit happly in the tank.

When talking about monthly water changes I think you need to be speaking of weekly water changes. If you are changing your water every week, then in the event you did have to go away for a while, you simply change the day you leave.

Side note unrelated, how long of vacations do you take? that you are worried about a month long water change? I only dream of having more then 2 weeks off work.

Having changed the day you left, and having had previously changed a good amount each week; you should be good for a couple weeks without ti.
