Looks like I may have a 55 gallon tank freeing up pretty soon. This time I want to get some easy to maintain fish but not sure what I want. Help me out. Here are some ideas:

1) group of FMs mixed with a group of rainbow cichlids (say 3 and 3)
2) breeding pair of salvinis
3) breeding pair of GTs
4) single tilapia butticoferi (I know, not New World but still...)
5) single RD

What would you do and why?

# 1 they are easy to care for and you get the enjoyment of more than one wet pet in the tank.

I have the most beautiful buterferkoi at my LFS. I'm too scared to put it in an empty 75. Awesome, but need more tank!

why are you scarred a 75 is big enough for one id say get it
but go with number one but get 4 FM they work better in pairs or if you get three make sure there all the same sex cause they might pair up and kill the FM thats left

I've have heard from personal experience that a 75 would too small. I like to keep all my cichlids comfortable for their entire life.

I would go with #1 also. Unless you already have setups with smaller less aggressive cichlids. Large cichlids are fun but I like generally would rather see fish interact with each other than their surroundings. I would probably do some geos too :)

And on a sidenote I think a 55 is way to small for butti. tank should be at least 18" IMO. I have seen many past the 12" mark.

one could live happy in a 75 for a while you might need a bigger tank
