My sister has my old 55 with two BP's(I told her not to get them and she did anyway), 3 silver dollars and a dying three spot gourami. Once the gourami bites the dust(dropsy) can she add a smaller cichlid? If so what? I was thinking a HRP, Con or a Festivum. Thoughts?

Festivum get pretty big; so do blood parrots. I don't think that'll fly long-term.

BP's can get over 8 inches, and they're a pretty solid fish. Silver dollars usually break the 5 inch mark and you've got 3 of them.
So, basically you will have 3 6 inch fish and 2 8 inch fish in a 55 gallon tank. I think the bioload would be pretty high with this stocking level. I guess if you "over" filter the tank you could get away with another small cichlid. IMHO I wouldn't do it though. You'll have happier nicer looking fish if they have room to swim. You'll also enjoy your tank more if you don't have to do a lot of maintenance. I personally like "understocked" tanks though. Good luck with whatever you decide to do.
