I have an empty 55 gallon in my garage that I plan on making my next project. I want to do convicts but I know they get very territorial when they breed and that tends to happen a lot with convicts. Also they aren't really the prettiest of fish when it comes to color and I am subject to a womans appeal because the tank will be going in the living room. Any other fish I could put with them in the tank that won't get harassed by the convicts when they breed but still have some nice color or fins??? Any help would be appreciated.

If you want cichlids, take a look at Salvinis, Firemouths, and/or Blue Acaras. They max out around 6"-7" and are rather pretty fish.

I love my setup (in sig)
My 55 is on my fireplace in my living room. Although this is a new setup, my tank really pops and ties the room together. Many people have come in and said the place feels very relaxing with the tank.

IMO, go as natural as you can. No colored stone substrate :D
Good luck, my GF LOVES this setup and stock

A smaller cichlid

honestly i just wouldn't bother with convicts. i really like the idea of salvinis or if you're stuck on a breeding project go with firemouths and some dark substrate, much better looking fish IMO

What is that red fish in the above pic?

Red Severum
Sold to me under Red Streaked Severum, but he's pretty damn vibrant.
Friendliest fish I ever owned.
Check my vid link, second day I had him he ate from my fingers.

Thanks guys. I looked into the rams and I think I will consider them. What do you think of Malawi mbuna, I have some freinds in Texas with access to that holey limestone stuff and I understand that makes great mbuna habitat.

FYI- nice avatar inssane lol
