Hey everyone, I set up a 55 to use as a growout/small community tank, and I noticed that I can see daylight between the stand and tank on a few spots around the bottom frame of the tank. I can slide a credit card through on some spots and some are down on the stand tightly (corners). My question is do I run the risk of breaking a seal because the tank is warped it is not the stand. Ill include some pics of the tank and the area I am talking about. Quick responses appreciated, Chris.

this is what styrofoam is for... do some searching theres about a million threads full of answers

I no next to nothing, but if the tank is down on both ends and up in the middle, I would think the seames on the front and back panel might give, if not crack the bottom.

I did look at the styrofoam threads and I don't know if that would help in this case or not. I also read that many people use it on large aquariums, 55 is pretty small. Anyways I don't know what to do, may end up taking it down and giving it away because if it breaks all my stuff will be ruined.

I wouldnt worry. the manufacturers tell us that glass tanks technically only need support on the corners. as long as the tank is level and flat, you should be fine. its likely not the tank that is the problem, rather the wood warping. I have had tanks set up for years and years, with the same type of small gap. as long as the tank is level and flat, you shouldn't have a problem.

also, if your tank has a 'floating bottom' - ie a plastic center brace on the bottom of the tank as the top does, stryofoam is not recommended (so say the manufacturers). I don't use styo either. I have had tanks for 20 years now. but they are alway level and flat.

even if your tank is like this, you might be okay:)

As someone who has been through many earthquakes, I can't help but cringe when I see concrete block stands. Great demonstration of concept, though.

Those are great pics. But what if a tank was stocked with big boulders or some heavy rocks towards the middle of the tank. Will it need more than just Corner Support??
