I recently acquired a 55G and fx-5 from craigslist for $50.
I have charcoal on top then bio max on 2nd and 3rd media.
I'm putting a jardini in it next month on my Bday.

question: What is the fast way to cycle the tank?
How often should I do WC's? and by how much%?

any help will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Rey

You can either get cycled media from another tank to seed yours by using the media in the filter or seachem stability(i worked for me even though i was a skeptic at first).otherwise you be patient and let it cycle the "long way". Water changes should be 20% once a week( i recommend getting a python as it is a life saver and encourages you to do bigger water changes) .And it was a steal for the price you got that for, i mean seriously, go give that guy at least 50 bux more :D. But a Jardini won't be good in a tank that size, just letting you know.

All of these questions can be answered with a little research on your part.
Take out the carbon for now and run double bio.
Tetra safe start worked for me to speed up cycling.
If you have access to someone else with a mature tank you can use some of their bio material or even gravel to speed it up.
An fx5 is a LOT of filter for a 55 gallon. You should be able to get away with around 20% a week, maybe less, all just depends and whatever your nitrate readings dictate.

Start researching cycling, fishless cycling is faster and safe.

I've read the cycle stickies and got great info.
Just wondering how can i speed it up so i can
get the tank ready on my bday for the jar.

Also it came with a python and other accessories that was needed.
I'll get some of that seachem stabilizer stuff to speed it up.
and this tank will hopefully serve me for a few months before i get
a 150 or bigger.
