I recently purchased a 55 gal tank. I'm setting it up for an African Cichlid tank... but I maybe interested in turning it into a predator tank..

What are some fish that I can have in there?

I've done oscars dempseys arrowannas red tail cats all in my 55 if u do the large mouth chiclids u'll eventually have to upgrade but africans 90% of them never get over 8 inches so put some coral in their n go to town witht he africans inless u plan on getting something bigger

Please do not put an arowana or a red tailed catfish into a 55 unless you plan to upgrade to a much larger tank. Otherwise, I think couple african cichlids would go great in a 55. You might even want to try some south american cichlids instead. Many of them such as Jack Dempseys and Salvini's are very aggressive and could be considered "predators." They wouldn't outgrow a 55 either. If you're into the "oddballs," get some senegal bichirs and an African brown knifefish. Cool looking fish that are definately predators.

Instead of and Arow.. I would go with an African Butterfly fish for the top.. But if you want a Veil looking fish.. Start with a Senegal Bicher.. Or a few...

Though Some of the Africans you might have could also be predators.. What do you currently have...

i love the africans i have in my 46 gallon. They never fail to amuse me. Single speciman tanks bore me. So keeping a bunch of africans has really entertained my needs. Oh and the colors are just wonderful especially againt a blackground.
Im the exact opposite, unless its a massive tank (500g) I'm not interested in Africans at all. I prefer 1 big fish with lots of personality over lots of smaller fish. If you don't like one fish tanks the anwser is upgrading to larger tanks.
I would go for some FW puffers, they stay small, are preditory and depending on spieces and decor you can keep 4-6 in a 55. *this is what I have read, I have no experiance with puffers (yet) and recommend doing research*

I like contasting groups.Like yellow labs with demasoni
or cherry zebras with blue reef afras
a group of saulosi with l.trewavase mpanga red
