55gal sump for 180gal Tank?

Would this ratio work?
I'm thinking about getting a 180gal for my Endli next year would this ratio work or would I need a few canisters....If there is anywhere you can send me to learn about how sumps work or good sump set up sites it would be awesome.
 
In short... yes a 55 gal tank could be used as an adequate sump for a 180 gal tank...

How you stage the media... what media you use... and how you design the intakes... will be the ultimate deciding factors of the efficiency of your sump though...
 
The LFS will direct you to expensive items they have for sale... not to practical items that will serve your best interests...

I do not know of a sinlge site (although I'm sure there are several) that offer thorough overviews of sump filtration... I sauggest you become familiar with the search function of this website and read other peoples threads... then when you come up with specific questions that you haven't found answers to feel free to make your own...
 
That should be fine I use a 55g on my 300g flowing aprox. 2200gph on it.

I'd get an overflow box capable of 1500gph if you are not gonna drill the tank and run a pump that is rated close to that. You should be fine
 
Here is a home made one I did. Needs more media but you get the idea.. Like someone already said do a search. Lots of good info on here. GL

Okay I used the search function and Google found some helpful places....

Obviously with Bio-Media replacing Live Rock, would the sump be nesseceray for a FW tank with and African Pike, BK, Endli Bichir, Ornate Bichir, and Asst. Malawi Cichlids?

How many fish total? and what type of Malawi cichlids ? All the Malawi's I kept would constantly harass and pick on my bichirs and fin nip the crap out of them. It was a big sigh of relief for me and my bichirs when I moved the African cichlids out of their tank
 
I have never in my life seen a freshwater tank where a sump was "necessary"... but there are many times where they are "beneficial"...

You always have other options though...
