Hey guys, I'm trying to set up my 55gal tank. Before I fill it with water, I wanted to check if it'd be ok. Where it is currently, it hangs off the desk 2in on the right side. I read somewhere that most of the tanks weight is supported by the corners so I was wondering if my tank would crack if I filled it as it is now.
Thanks for any answers you can give me!

I'd always recommend a flat surface that supports the entire bottom of a tank, but if you have no other options, 2 inches isn't too bad. can you center the tank on the desk so that you have one ich on both sides, rather than 2 inches on one side?

Unfortunately no, I'm in a dorm room and the furniture fits together so that the desk sits on a self on a shelving unit, so it can only hang off the side on the right side.

Get a pice of 1/2 inch plywood and 1 2X4. Cut the ply to fit the tank and make some legs on the one side for the hang over. thia should work fine for a 55 and take some worry off your mind. 30$ tops

Most home stores will cut wood for like.50 a cut since your in the dorm and i dout you have many tools.

Tank acrylic or glass?

if for nothing else than peace of mind i would have something under it. even if you just ran a couple sheets of ply underneath it. i did this with a 55 that i had ontop of a dresser before.

Is this the only place you can put it? I would say if you have the room get a stand made for that size tank or if the floor is level put it on the floor to be safe. I have heard of tanks sitting like that breaking and making a huge mess.
