Hello everyone, I found a 56 gallon custom acrylic tank for free a few blocks away. The story goes like this: I’m walking my dog, and I see a free tank. I pick the tank up. It is 56 gallons, from the tank calculator in MFK. I carry the tank 4 blocks back to my house. My mom see’s it and she’s like “WHAT THE HELL DID YOU BRING BACK! OUR HOUSE IS ALREADY CRAMMED TO THE BRIM WITH PETS!” My dad’s like calm down, and we convince her to keep the tank. I just need help figuring the whole tank out. The filtration is the key. I’m guessing it had a sump, because there is a bulkhead in the top left. In the top right, there is a little box. Take a look. Also, the dimensions are 48”x15”x18”.

Sweet pickup!

Nice.

You can always connect a canister to the overflow drains if you don't want to do a sump, or keep the water line 2" below the overflow (you would have to cap the drains in the overflow just in case.

Thanks everyone! We have a few animal projects going on, but I want to plan this one ahead of time. I think it would go under the current 55, because I don’t have anywhere else to put it. I guess I could get a stand. If I do not get a stand, then the floor would be supporting 111 gallons of water; or 926.33 pounds. But I don’t want a sump; more money. And I am practically broke besides a few hundred dollars in which I spend on spoiling my animals, and getting new. I want an HOB because I am more comfortable with them, and they are cheaper, but I Can’t. So Canister is the way to go. If you can suggest a cheap, efficient canister filter, that would be nice. Also, what lights would I need with an acrylic lid like that?

The aqueon stuff is usually good if you want cheap but effective.
Any lights will work unless you want plants.
