New World Record 575 lbs Tiger Shark caught on 13 lbs test Brett Sinclair, Chris Bonnici and boat captain Aaron Pierklarski back on shore in Dampier with the 260.8kg
Amazingly, he caught it on just 6kg fishing line, which is usually used to catch snapper and salmon. He beat the world's previous best catch on a 6kg line by more than 100kg.
The 27-year-old from Sydney was participating in the Dampier Classic when he landed the beast from a rented boat just after midnight on August 1.
It took more than three hours to reel the giant shark in.
"We had already caught a small tiger shark an hour or two before," Mr Sinclair said.
"When this one took the bait I thought it would be about the same size. I actually asked the other lads if they wanted to grab the rod and have a go but luckily they said no."
Mr Sinclair, an industrial chemist, was on the boat with his cousin and the boat's captain.

It is A SHAME. This shark is probably one of the most endangered shark in the world.
Killing just for a stupid record "it s me who took the biggest"... So ridiculus!
Total waste, the fish will not be eaten at least...
Nature says thank you for contribuing to the end!
As everybody know, all populations of shark are less and less (sorry i m french my english is so bad) because of asian demand...
We will loose at least 2 or 3 species of shark in the next 10 years.
We must stop NOW, nothing to say more.
I hate human, they are so proud and selfish...

geez, man up... bunch of babies... this is the fishing forum! What did you expect to see???

that is an amazing catch on such light tackle.

I feel the same, but this is the Fishing section, afterall :)

Myself, I hate to see such huge fish die..I hold several world and state line class records with IGFA but all of mine were released unharmed. One of the rules of IGFA is you have to be on dry land to properly weigh a fish, I think there is an exception but can't remember.

About the line lb, yes it is a great catch and can be beaten again and again to a certain point. Its not like like fighting a fish from the bank all on your own, this was a team effort to get this guy in. If he was by himself, he never would have gotten to see it, period. Boat placement, running the boat with the fish/shark to tire him out have A LOT to do with it. Its common sense that if you have this fish on dead weight the line would break but if you follow the fish to tire it out and most likely they were in shallow water, you can do exactly what these guys did. This isnt the first time such a huge fish was caught on light line.

Its probably gonna get mounted, either that or its gonna be dinner because shark are actually pretty good eating like gamier swordfish.

i am for the catch and release. and if they are gonna kill it, i hope they eat it too. hate for it to die just to be a trophy. but yeh that is pretty amazing to catch that tiger with such a thin line. wonder whats the next record gonna be :D? 12lb line test lands a whale??? that be pretty much impossible but would be amazing.

i don't even think its possible. just at the slight turn of the head the line would break. all they probably did was let out slack line, follow the thing around and looped the tail or gaffed it. its idiotic. 13 pound line in salt water is almost like nothing.

I believe in matching your tackle with the fish you are trying to catch. Too bad this shark was killed.
