Questions: Im looking for any other options(fish wise) for such a small tank. also what are some good smaller plecos for this size tank and or snails. im planning on a few low light plants, but would love any lists of recommendations. Substrate i have the the all black flora-ite or what ever its called. and was thinking of haveing like 2 in of that at the bottom and a layer of sand on top? what do yall think. thank you, SD

First; that betta is gorgeous. Just had to throw that out there.

Second; your sword is going to completely dominate that tank, especially after you add the new substrate. That's not a bad thing, your betta will love it, but it will be a major focal point for this tank. Just make sure that you're keeping it fertilized at the roots.

Third; if you're going to have such a thick substrate, I would advise that you get something that will stir the sand up, even if it's just you poking into it with a stick once or twice a week. Better yet, get some burrowing snails. They'll help keep the tank clean and stir the sand to prevent any dead spots from forming.

Last; I would not put another fish in there. It's just too small of a tank. Stick with snails or shrimp or some other small invert.

MY BAD- the pics were of an old tank, i was just showing what the old tank looked like, i am thinkin about doing a similar style tank but want new ideas. i will have like 1.5 inches of flourite plant and then 1/4 inch of sand. the burrowing snail idea is awsome how many? and what smaller plants could i put in there to create a mini aqua scape, thinkin of small drift wood, rocks etc. thanks for the help.

thanks for le poisson's comments he was such a entertainer.

Do a search for "planted nano tanks". Those should give you some good ideas on plants and scapes.

As for the snails, I would only start off with five or six Malaysian Trumpeter snails (MTS). They'll eventually populate the tank. Just don't overfeed, or you'll have way too many.

what about GOLBYS> never had them befor could i have 1, and if so what type. Also maybe a puffer, and for cleaning should i get the spiral snails (their names an acrinim*) like rts, or should i get a small cory or pleco species to disturb the sand and flourite.

DIY co2 is complete i have it getting difused out of an air stone but the tank is only half way full due to the begining of my aquascape so its pumpin in basically just cause. but any ways i was planing on just leting the c02 run through the inpeller of my filter.

then that brings me back to the filter should i use my eclipe filter which is on its last leg, or should i buy a zoo med 501. or a filter of that nature or is that over kill.

lol well should i go with fish then. what would handle the load of cleaning and algae cleaners. and could i have a shrimp ir 2? or would my choice of fish kill them?
