i know an fx5 is the daddy of filter but i want to work with what i have, i recently got a second hand rena aqualife 6.5ft tank. i am running it with 2 x rena xp4 external filters, with the fish i intend to keep (malawis haps and mbuna) i have no worries re bio capacity with the 2 filters but the actual flow output of these filters is not very high so my water has lots of particles flaoting around in the water, so i guess i need more mechanical filtration.

should i add powerheads to direct water movement towards the xp4's out pipe ?

or should i add more internal filters for mechanical filtering

i have a tunxe 6025 modifoied for higher output so i can use that to direct flow but where i should aim it for best results who knows

i dont want to add loads of pumps or filters as i want to keep my electricity use as low as possible. so rather than adding more and more filters i want to make the best of what i have.

;)

Have one rena attached directly to the tank and have the second rena attaced to the output of a sump. That way your rena will rarely have to be cleaned...

78" X 18" X 24" HOLDS 620L but i guess about 500L with rocks and gravel etc

can you eplain how that would give me better filtration, as i said bio filtering should not be a problem as the xp4's hold a lot of media, i need more mechanical filtering, im in the uk and you cant get the likes of the ac110 over here and i want to avoid shoving internal filters in, i think the rena xp4's put out an actual flow of 700LPH each which is nowhere near the 1500 lph it rates.

For more mechanical I would get a PVC tube fill it with filter floss and attach a power head into the PVC tube. That should get your water crystal clear. Don't forget to drill holes in the PVC. This is the cheapest I can think of right now.
