Ok so im taking my first jump into salt with a 60gal cube 2'x2'x2' that I will be setting up into a mixed reef. I have a few questions regarding lighting though I would like to do LEDs but not sure if they have the PAR level to keep hard corals. I was looking at the marineland Reef capables. would prob get 2 of them. but there are mixed reviews on them so if anyone has any experiance or input i would very much like to hear it. My other option is this. but the 150w MH not 250. http://www.marinedepot.com/ps_viewi...campaign=mdcsegooglebase2&utm_content=ES53522

I know this will work but Like I said I would rather do LEDs so if anyone has any suggestions I would be happy to hear them. thanks

The LEDs look like a pretty good deal, but I don't know if they'll work for corals that require high levels of light; don't forget that you'll avoid needing a chiller which you would most likely be needed for metal halides.

I'm still fairly new to this whole thing, too, so let's let the experts have the final word on this matter.

I have no real experience with any LED fixtures, so I cant really talk there.

I will say this though, coralife is expensive, and doesnt make the best fixtures. Everyone I know that has used them has not been happy with quality.

Some of them in fact have switched to www.aquatraders.com and been happier with that.

I use 250w DE MH over my 50g reef (it has similar dimensions to your 60g). and a 250w SE MH over a 40 cube. The corals love the extra light. However, the SE light leads to a much higher rate of evapaoration than the DE fixture.

niether tank has a chiller... rooms are kept at about 76F.

nice light, but expensive

have you checked out

www.hellolights.com

if you built a canopy, you could install custom HQI much cheaper

of course, if the money is not an issue, that type of light would be much simpler.
