i recently converted my planted discus tank to more of a biotope setup - light sand, thinner plans, oak/maple leaves, root style drift wood, and numerous hanging plants. i also added a 3d background to the tank. here a few pictures i took last night - would love some opinions on the tank layout and the inhabitants:

Wow beautiful tank man!!!! Imo it would look more natural if you added tannins! Try microbe lift amazon colorant, i use it for my rbp and its awesome! Safe for plants too

If you want the leaf type look I personally would go with catappa leaves (indian almond)...they will give you that blackwater tint to the water and have properties that promote healing. They will lower the ph slightly but not drastically. I would watch what type of oak leaf you use if you stick with them..I do know that black oak has been known to cause health issues with some animals.

Wow nice fish and set up I really like the cobalt and turquoise a lot. But the only thing I would change is having Angels in the tank i would take them out the tank they cause disease and become more aggressive fish

I disagree with this. This is one of the most common urban legends regarding Angela and discus. Yes the aggression COULD be a factor but as far as disease goes... Very very very unlikely. Any fish could cause disease, this has just been blown out of proportion. My family kept these guys together for years with no trouble. As have many people on here
