Hey mfk, I'm trying to make a 60 gallon sump for a 210 gallon tank. Can you help me with a few things?

1. What pump would you recommend? I have an older rio 3100 pump but when I tried to set it up, it pumped out water much faster than the water coming into the sump from the overflow.

2. I need to redo the baffles on the sump. How much space is needed for the first part where water enters the sump? How many inches should the first baffle higher than the bottom of the sump?

3. Where is the best place to put carbon in a sump setup?

Thanks for your help.

I think if the water goes fast as the tank can flow you have a problem with your overflow pipe.

1.) If you can give us the pipe size of your overflow we will know the gph on it.
2.) 1 inch baffles should be enough no need to redo it unless it is too thin.
3.) Ive never used carbon at all.

Here's a great guide. I prefer the Justlooking with a few slight modifications. It's a very well built wet/dry and I think it's a really great use of materials. I am using acrylic for my baffles because they're not really bearing that much weight and I think the silicone will hold fine or what I'm asking it to do. Maybe I'm a little lazy, but I think cutting acrylic on the table saw is easier than cutting glass perfectly.
