Hello everyone!

I'm in the middle of having a 600 gallon (8' X 4' X 30") plywood tank built, and I'm in the design stage of how I want the tank to look and what fish to put in it. The fish that I have at the moment that are going into the tank are 5 Heros sp.Rocktei, 6 Heros notatus, 9 Red Hook Silver Dollars, 6 Uaru amphiacanthoides, and 6 Acarichthys heckelii. I also have some Vieja argentea that I was debating on putting in there as well, but I'm still undecided. What other fish could you guys recommend to fit into my current mix?

I'm still also undecided on what type of sand to use as a substraight. Since the tank is painted black I know I'm not going to use a black sand. Right now I'm trying to decide between a playsand which is a brown color, or pool filter silica sand which is white. What do you guys think would be the best choice?

The next thing that I'm looking for some advice on is the filteration. Since I'm not going to be using a sump set-up I was wondering what you guys might recommend for filteration? I was thinking of using a couple of canaster filters, and large powerheads with sponge filters to pick-up larger debris, and additional sponge filters to maintain the biological filteration. I had also started thinking about a pool filter, but I haven't been able to find too much information on what type of pool filter would work best for my application.

I look forward to hearing everyones advice.

To go with the fish you already have I would recommend some chocolate cichlids or true parret cichlids and maybe a flagtail or something unique like that. Geo altifrons would also be a nice choice. I would think you would need atleast 3 large canisters for filtration.

Sounds like it is going to be pretty cool, those notatus's are awesome looking fish and really hard to find.

Thanks for the advice! I've actually been thinking about the chocolate cichlids and the true parrots. How many of each fish would be best for each group?

They are really nice looking! I'd have to say they are my favorite heros species that I'm keeping!
