While my 600 gallon aquarium is in the middle of a fish less cycle I decided it is time to get my permanent stocking list for the tank. Originally I had plans to house multiple rays, but instead I am now going for more of a predatory community tank. Originally I wanted discus instead of Severums on this list, but after visiting the lfs and seeing the size of a full grown discus I am beginning to reconsider due to the fact that it might be a rather expensive snack for both the Ray and an Arowana. I also was told that I would be crazy to try and keep discus with predators. That being said, here is my current stock plan.

1 Marble motoro Ray
1 silver Arowana
1 Datnoid
1 ornate Bichir
6 Severum (was told they need to be in groups in a predator tank)
(10 large fish total)

The Ray and Arowana are the two fish I am most likely to get, so all other fish have to be adaptable to them. What do you guys think of this list? I really wanted more color, but almost all large colorful fish are to aggressive for the Ray. Any suggestions or advice would be appreciated because I have never kept any monster sized fish before. Am I crazy to think that fish can live in peace with 2 huge predators in the tank? This tank also will not be a grow-out and I have no plans to upgrade, so any stock would be permanent.

I'm getting my 600 next week and I'm doing rays and peacock bass in it :).....if I were u I would do everything you had listed but take the severums out and add

Spotted gar
Peacock bass (there's your color)
6 wide bar silver dollars
Tigrinius catfish

Also black arowana over silver

Maybe a flagtail if it cooperates with the ray

Interesting, I have thought about a peacock bass, but I am worried it might grow to large for my tank. I also had no idea that a gar could be kept with a ray, but if that really is the case then I might have to pick one up. I have always thought silver dollars looked plain, although the wide bar does have a little more character to it. Once you get your 600 stocked you should definitely post pictures so I can steal all your ideas;)

My 609 will be 5-6 rays....wide bars and peacock bass....

Gars are fine with rays....a silver arow will grow bigger then a peacock bass.....majority of peacock bass reach around 24-30 ....reach around 12 in first year

I like your plan but not big severum fan, just personal preference not because of compatability. I often think about what at I'd stockin a similar sized tank and it's basically your stock with some geo altifrons over the sevs.

Interesting, did a little looking and it seems like some of the species have way more colors then others. In your opinion what is the most colorful species? Considering replacing the Datnoid with a colorful bass.

I remember looking at the geo's before, They do seem to have a bit more color than most Severums, as long as they wouldn't become food they would probably be a suitable discus replacement.

Majority are colorful but I'd say monos or ocellaris have a lot of color

Old thread, any pics anywhere? In the same boat, tank coming in 12 weeks or so...
