So Cal
Well, i have two tanks on the way one is a 100g (Wont receive for awhile im afraid) and one 60T. I was thinking about what to put in the 60t, at first i was thinking some African cichlids i've kept african community tanks before... But after spending some more time here, im really looking into the "Big" cichlids... Jaguars, Red Devil / midas, etc etc..

Basically id like to know more about the large cichlids, if i were to stick one fish in the 60g, what would you guys recommend ? Seems like a Red Devil / Jaguar would outgrow it, and these large cichlids are totally new to me.

Ty much for the input.

oh yeah, Tank size is supposedly (havent picked it up yet) 36Lx25Dx15W

I think due to the tanks deminsions you would be better off going with your original idea and getting the Africans. I can't think of any large south/Central Americans that are going to like that tank. You could go with some dwarf pikes (Regani), Thorichthys (Aureus), Archocentus (Sajica), or any other smaller cichlid. There are lots of south/Central Americans that you could house in that tank i just don't think its a good size for a large fish.

Thats pretty much what I thought, sigh. I saw a few pics of EBJD's that had me really wanting one. Ty much !!

Yeah you might be able to pull off an EBJD as long as it stays around 8" otherwise it will get kinda of cramped. I would do a nice Mbuna set up, but no big boys from CA or SA. However that 100 you can get some big boys.

Yeah, that 100 is a bit away, and I actually wanted a few false gar in there. But I haven't ruled out the big cichlids either. One of the reasons I wanted to stray from the african tanks is because i've had so many before, id like something a little different.

Sadly... The only thing i realized here is that no matter what i have, I think i'll want a bigger tank.

Yeah definitely bigger tank in the future... Regarding your future stock, I would say go with what you feel and what you know would not be too agressive on each other. I also have a 60G and I have a couple of CKs, managuense, and a P. Bass. I am not keeping them in their for life. Once they outgrew the tank, its time for a trade at my LFS for smaller fishies.

tall tanks have the problem of limiting the type of fish you get. cichlids tend to be more bottom dwelling as opposed to the types of fish who like swimming around the surface or mid portions of the tank for example.
if i were you i would go the planted tank with altum angles direction :)

yeah, i thought about that too. One of the things i wanted to stray from was having to pick up another light to up my WPG on that tank but thats a def possibility as well.

Planted tank with a few bolivian rams for the bottom and a couple (breeding pair?) of festivums for the surface. Then you could stock the middle with some buenos aires tetras or similar fish
