I am going to be getting a 65 gallon tank that will be housing a baby peacock bass (till he grows it out) For filtration i am thinking a fluval 406? Is that enough filtration? Tell me what you guys think

The 406 should filter 65gals lil over 5 times an hr at max efficiency, so its adequate...u already bought/own that filter?

I am a big fan of over filtering... maybe the 406 and a big aquaclear?

If you look around you can get a sweet deal on a new Fluval 405 over getting the 406.

Guess it depends how much you can find the 406 for. That pumps is rated at 383gph. For a lil more $, could get an FX5, 900gph I believe. May b overkill for 65gal, but I always go overkill ;) My 75gal has bout 1100gph, but also housing a few larger fish (cat, flagtail, AT datnoid). Could use the 406 n a HOB like an AC110, tho b bout same price as buying an FX5. What's your plan for a tank when that p bass outgrows the 65g?

You already hav a larger tank going that u b adding the P bass too later? N you plan on keeping your 65gal going after moving fish to.larger tank? Just curious cause mite b able to save some cash buying more filtration now, without having to upgrade later

I have a friend with a indoor pond so when the P bass out grows the 65 i will be giving it to him.. So i would like to go with the best filtration because the tank is going to act as an incubator (i get baby monster grow them give them to friend). I already have a aquaclear 110 so should i just that and a fluval 406? Also can the aqualclear HOB filter go on the side of the tank instead of back? (no room on back to close to wall)

That 406 with the AC110 would do then. Like Conlin said tho, might be able to find a 405 for cheaper, very comparable. As far as hanging the AC on side of tank, only problem I see would b if u hav glass top running from side to side. Most of my tanks hav wet/dry sump systems, I'm big fan of them (been using them for 15yrs). They very versatile, can hide heaters or other accessories in them. But if your tank real close to wall, probably won't work due space the overflow takes up.
