Ive got a 65 gallon tank with a 4 year old Red Devil. Im interested in getting him a mate. When I move I will be getting a larger tank but I dont know exactly when. If I find a adult female before I move, will they be ok together in the 65? Should I just wait?
Id like to get peoples input before I do this. The last thing I want is fish to get hurt or killed but if I find a good deal on a adult female I dont want to pass it up.

Im leaning towards waiting but I want to be prepared for potential opportunities.

I think anything introduced into a 65gal with a 4yr old RD is in trouble. Ecpecially a female. If its a 65gal long you might be able to get away with it. You can always try and if the fish look cramped and unhappy, then you know u need to get rid of her, or go puchase a monster tank.

I could bet money that no, they won't be ok. That male is probably really aggressive if he's used to having a tank to himself. If it were me, I wouldn't risk it...

Well you all have pretty much confirmed my suspicions. If I find a mate prior to getting a larger tank i will be pulling out my 55 gallon tank from storage and setting her up in that.
Thanks for all your input everyone!

wait a minute . . . you mean you're actually listening to good advice and taking thoughtful, responsible action? what the hell? :grinno:
