heya!

Good to be back again after a little hiatus....
Just scored a 65g 48x18x18 with stand for cheap and gonna replace the 29g and make a nice angel tank. Thing is, the stand that came with it is a 48x13 (for a 55/75g i think).
Is it safe to set up with the front/back overhang? If not, is there anything I can do to make it ok (board on top?)
Thanks :D

Hello; Metal or wood stand? A board under the tank is something that I do most of the time and may help. I use plywood cut to size. Strength is not likely to be the critical issue as there is only 10 gallons difference. Stability is an issue that comes to mind with some of the tank sticking out over the edges. Stress on the tank might be an issue with the tank frame only being supported on the ends and on on the front and back, this is why a board might help.
Perhaps the tank can be flush with the stand across the front and the overhang in back caught by a narrow brace added to the back of the stand ( maybe a free standing 2x4 brace) and the board under the tank???

It's a metal stand. Thicker tubing than my 29g tubing. Nice stand, just not the right size. Now that I'm staring at the tank, I don't know if a board would be a good idea, as you said, for the stability issue. It's carpeted in my basement, and any extra instability would definitely concern me.... I might see if I can move the stand and get a proper 48 x18.

S'all good. Got a used 48x18 stand with board for $20 today. Needs a little TLC, but should do the job. Was surprised at the quick and numerous responses to people with stands available, since I found most pet store websites didn't have 48x18 stands listed.... Thanks for the advice, though!

Thanks barracuda123. It needs a little sand down and a coat of flat black, but overall not too bad. Gonna be a bit til I get started on the changeover. I want to get a bigger 2nd filter for the tank. I have an AC50 and whisper 30, but would rather replace the 30 with an AC70.
