Display tank for in my office, 250 litres

pH is 7.9 out the tap.

I was thinking bare bottom discus until I've been reading about the pH so I'm thinking black background, pool filter sand, ocean rock which I already have and some kind of bright cichlids such as mbuna?

Any suggestions? Filtration will be the overtank built in modified slightly with a bigger pump and I'll run a wavemaker and an internal sponge.

Suggestions please?

With your pH, and tank size, I would think some rift lake shell dwellers, or substrate huggers like Neolamprologus for the substrate area, and some Cyprichromis or Paracyprichromis that would inhabit the open areas of the tank.
Or....
a few smaller Central Americans like Amatitlania nanoluteus or herotilapia multispinnossa for the substrate areas, with live bearers like Xiphorus for the open/surface areas.
nanoluteus above the swordtails, multispinosa below

Demasioni and lemon yellows 10 each, stack of lava or tuffa (which could be the ocean rock you are referring to) with the light substrate would make an attractive active colorful setup, crowded yes but normally works w mbuna I have some setups like that currently that work well…like Duane said those tangs should work also but they are so boring wo much color (like other tangs haha)

For an office display, I think you can't go wrong with demasoni or another small, flashy mbuna.
The others have given some good ideas.
Depending on the dimensions, a single wet-pet might be nice as a sort of office mascot. A female amphilophus or flowerhorn would probably do the trick.

What are the dimensions? The only mbuna I'd really recommend in anything less than a 4ft-long tank, would be a group of yellow labs...
