What is the best bulb for a low light system. I have two 48" t5's on a 55gal and am planning to grow some java moss and marcilea. The 6700k's seem less expensive than the plant grow bulbs is this a "get what you pay for scenario"?
The grow bulbs probably are 6700K. The reason for the cost is probably because they are trying to sell them off as something more than what they are. Check the Kelvin temp of the grow bulbs.
Better yet, write down the exact model of each lamp and see if you can find its PAR (photosynthetically active radiation) level online. Color temp is not really a good guide to how well a lamp encourages photosynthesis. Here's a list of PAR values for Sylvania brand fluorescent lamps: http://www.sylvania.com/content/display.scfx?id=003680197
the plant growth bulbs are most likely pink.. it think the kelvinis aroun 4700k or 5500k.. you need the pink light spectrum if you want good plant growth
