I'm thinking about putting a 6 ft spray bar on my sump return on my 200 gallon tank 6ft long c 3ft deep x 2ft high I have mocked up a quick test using 21mm pvc pipe of a 2000lph pump but it's barely pushing through. I'm just asking if anyone else has tried something similar and what lph pump they used to produce a decent spray to encourage better flow ? Any advice would be great.

On my 560 I run 2 52 inch spray bars. They're 1 1/2 PVC with 3 rows of 1/2 holes. The pump is a 4000 gph dolphin pump , so there's lots of flow but not lots of crazy currents. Seems to work great. But I am thinking of plugging a couple holes.

I have a 22" spray bar on my 180gal. It is 1" with 3 evenly spaced 1/2" holes. My pump is a 1000gph. I have great flow with it. I put it on one end of the tank and have my overflows on the other end.

What do you mean by "better flow"? The most efficient way to maximise the flow from your pump would be a single pipe coming out into the tank with as little restriction as possible. But that can be a bit much for many fish! I wouldn't suggest making the spraybar the entire length of your tank, you'll need to strike a balance between having enough holes not to restrict the flow too much and having so many holes the water piddles out slowly.

Is you pump rated for 2000LPH at the head height you're using it at, or is that the maximum flow of the pump at zero head? If it's the latter you might want to invest in a gruntier pump if you want more flow.

thanks for your replies and advice i have now decided to run one spray bar one end and a straight single pipe the other maybe split direction and see how the fish like it.
