i just bought a test kit today and got all of the stuff that goes with it. and my ph read 7.4 is that pretty good for most fish like red tails and shovelnoses and most monster fish. another question my tank has been a little foggy and i tested the ammonia in it a while ago and it was a little hight and i put treatment in there will it clear when the ammonia drops.

Your PH will be fine at 7.4, just make sure it does not fluctuate. Yes, your tank will clear when the ammonia level drops. Is this a new tank? If so, I would wait till it cycles before adding any expensive fish. It takes about a month before the tank fully cycles. If your water gets real cloudy, do a 50% waterchange and make sure not to overfeed and overstock the tank. Good luck.
