I wouldn't stay away from damsels because in such a small tank a small hardy fish sometimes is all that there is space for, which a damsel would be a perfect fit. Also if you are implying to stay away from all damsel species, you are also saying stay away from all clownfish, as clownfish are damsels. Don't mean to sound like a smart*** but I'm just mentioning for future references.

My bad, I was meant to stay away from Domino, Blue Devil, Velvet damsels, those are meant one and those are readily available all LFS, once they established in a small tank they most likely will harass other fishes and stress them out and stressed fishes might catch ich.

Yeah, I got Fiji blue devil damselfish and that thing didn't leave my royal gramma alone and keep harass it until the royal died from stressed. Also, once you put a damsel in decent size tank with lots live rocks you can't take it out lol (my bad experiences don't mean or apply to everyone because it's all depend on each fish personality). For example, I keep a peacock mantis shrimp in my 115G alone with few tiny horned hermit crabs (hermit crabs was meant food for my mantis shrimp) and some other fishes and a turbo snail, oddly my mantis shrimp leave everyone alone and just wait for my frozen market shrimp cut into pieces and happy with that hehehe.
