7 days...

Some of you may remember months ago when I said I might have the chance to go to Ecuador and the Galapagos Islands this summer. Well, in 7 days and something like 6 hours I'll be arriving in Columbus at the airport for my flight down to Quito (by way of Chicago and Miami). After work this week, I'll be getting packed and then about this time next week I'll be disappearing from here for a little over 3 weeks. I'll be in Quito and surrounding areas including cloud forests in the Andes for about a week, then 8 days cruising around the Islands in a small ship, then finishing up be staying with some natives in the Ecuadorian Amazon for the last week. Don't worry, I'll be taking hundreds of pictures.

Today I got an early b-day present for the trip: a waterproof video camera. I've been told we'll most likely be swimming with sea lions in the Islands, so expect a video or two of that (as well as probably some feeding videos or something as I try it out before I leave)

That's awesome, I'm sure you'll have an incredible trip. I spent 7 weeks in Quito in 1996, Ecuador is a very cool place. I wish I could have gone to the Galápagos, at the time I didn't have the money.

Oh, there will be lots of pics. I got the memory card for the video camera today and tested it out in one of my tanks. It felt so wrong to take my brand new camera and just dunk it in the tank even though it's made to go underwater. My oscar was checking it out and even gave it a couple headbutts. The other fish just swam away.
