so I finally found a good deal on a larger tank for my oscars/polys. it's 72x24x24 tank. :)

the stand that came with it is only 21 inches tall, to short for me. so I'm planning to start another diy stand build. i have built a couple 40g b and 20g tank stand but nothing this big. I'm planning to install a sump in the near future as money allows so I want an open designed front. would one support in the center be enough on a 7 foot span? I plan to use 2x4 doubled up on top and bottom sections. I want the stand to look like this one before I skin it and stain it. any input is greatly appreciated :)

looks nice, I'm going for a "natural" wood look so it matches my hardwood floors.
how long is your stand

Will do. I want the stand to be "flush" with the side of the tank.

now my next dumb question , should I be worried about possible shrinkage of using green Douglas fir or is kiln dried whitewood strong enough .

Your question is not dumb but a smart one Tbh don't have an answer for but quite certain a member with lumber knowledge will chime in.

yea I hope some with more experience will chime in. what kind of wood is best you use, I didn't put much thought into it with my small tanks , but this one's 210g that will be sitting on my hard wood floor. the last thing I want is the stand to flex and drain onto my floor.
