G'day Guys. I have recently purchased a 7g/30l saltwater tank. Its my first saltwater tank and I'm just wondering what sort of mid to top of tank fish i can stock it with. In the future i do plan to grow corals
Thank you so much

I would say clown gobies cause they stay small. But they are bottom level

For a 7g tank you have very little choice. Some suggestions 2 or 3 red fire fish, 1 single basselet like a chalk or orchid dotty or tobacco. Pretty much everything else is going to be to big or will possibly eat corals. Good luck small salt tanks are typically harder to keep long term then larger ones.
I kept an 8g on my desk at work. I had a skimmer/filter on it called a skilter it was ok but not great. I also used a reactor fed by a small power head with purigen in it. I had corals a blood shrimp and a purple fire fish in it. I had it up for over a year.

Hmm, your saying 2 or 3 firefish, or a dottyback, for a 7g? Im thinking a single firefish might be okay, but the 2 or 3 would be too much. And the dottybacks will all outgrow a 7g for sure. The stocking of your own 8g sounds good to me with the single fire fish.
OP- I'd look at bimaculatus blenny, clown goby (or any other small goby species), and inverts like cleaner shrimp

Orchid dotty back is 2-3". About the size of a Betta. Same for firefish. I've found the standard firefish do better in groups so at least 2. I don't think 2 standard firefish would be to much. But I do agree you want to keep stocking low. And I wouldn't do more then the 2ff or 1 of the smaller dotty back species definitely do not mix them.

I don't think any of those fish would be too much for that tank. Obviously not all, definitely do not mix them in that small a tank. And also pretty obvious to me you will need to keep up your maintenance.
I don't know what I was thinking with tobacco that's way to big. I'm thinking the orangish one with the bright blue lines on the head.
