I have noticed over the past few days that my female is swimming near the top of the tank. She seems to almost be playing in the current generated by my filters (emperor 400 and Eheim pro 3).

I watch her float/tread water near the top for a few min, then she glides back down to the bottom of the tank and goes back to being a normal ray floating around the bottom and chilling out again.

Anyone else know what this is about?

It probably stressed. Do you have other fish in the same tank? Check to see if any fish bother her. If it's by itself, then it's fine.

My male motoro does that like 10 times a day too. he goes up and play with the current and then come back down acting normal then after awhile he goes up and play again.

sweet. Thanks a ton guys, I have looked for other symptoms to make sure she was doing ok, and I couldn't see anything wrong with her, and it makes me feel a lot better that my first instincts were right.

SOOO weird to see her "play" in the current up top near the aro's and such.

But glad to know it isn't anything to be worried about.

i know this might not apply to rays but my BGK did that for 2 days then he just sat at the bottom and slowly died i found out later that my heater had a short circuit and was constantly on so he died of over heating, but im not saying this is the case with rays so dont judge me
