Hey guys, I have had this guy for nearly three years now and he appears to have stopped growing. It states that males are able to reach 12" and females around 7-8". So i am confused as I thought it was a male due to its hump but i may be wrong.

It may be a clue for you, females has a black dark spot on dorsal fin. If it is easy for you to determine the spot, it should help.

Looks like a big fat female to me. Males are generally a lot longer with a little bigger heads. Females tend to stay a lot short and look fatter as they mature. My male is about 10" and my female is around 7".

I'd agree that it's probably female but I've only kept a male that reached that size.

agree, very nice

I thought females didn't develop the nuchal hump like this guy does. But I keep him in a 180 gallon (6x2x2) with 2 bay snooks, 2 brasiliensis, v. fenestratus, v. synspilum and 2 silver sharks.
