I had started my post here and as suggested, I'll be continuing here.

I have moved to a more simple 1 inch overflow that is working beautifully for once! Now I am only using one pump to move water :)

I also picked up a Turbo Sea 580 for $50 - I could not pass that up, so now I do have a beefy pump (for a 70g), but being external it does not fit into my design or my current sump. I have never used an external pump and I don't really know how to hook it up. The website doesn't have any documentation. So any new designs I consider need to make use of this external pump.

The whole sump / fuge area has me in a bit of a bad mood - especially after looking at this site! I just checked and a 55 will fit under than stand with some height to spare. I do have a 55 with a cracked side I could fix and use, but not too sure how that would work out with this new external pump.

Back to the skimmer, I have tried a few things and left it running for 2-3 days and I still can't get anything nasty looking - I do get a foam column, but the only time it pushes up is when it burps. I have some 3in and 2in pipe for this, as well as some 1/2 and 3/4 inch pipe lying around. still at a loss on this...

Not many questions in there - but just don't know what direction to go :)

Hopefully some of the other vets will start stopping by again...it has been a little slow. At the least I am sure to see it here. :D

Sounds good. I am sure this has reduced many of the headaches we were dealing with in that last setup.

I have no experience with external pumps...but I have a feeling you will be building a new sump.

If you feel like you can drill the glass...it should work. You are going to need to have the room for the pump, and the plumbing though. If you have a chance you might want to try to contact melev...he builds sumps.

What sort of skimmer is this? Sounds like you need a replacement.

I would definitely consider contacting melev. An acrylic sump would be awesome, and easy to use with your external.

Star searching for used AquaC skimmers. You can get these pretty cheap and they do a good job.

Other decent skimmers that are always popping up are ASM an reefoctopus, I just prefer the AquaC
