I didn't read or hear where they were confirmed to be piranha. The video said piranha-like fish, whatever that means.

You know these are going to become someone's new MFK project fish, haha. The word in the article is "palometa", which is a name used for lots of different species of fish. It seems like from a scientific classification POV, it's an invalid species name for the Pygocentrus genus of pirahna.

Someone must of had an open cut or a woman was going through Menstruation. They tasted blood in the water got them into a frenzy!! Once the first person was bitten and caused more blood that's what I think set them off.

The event only made the news because of the species. In the summer of 2012, Orange County beaches alone reported over 900 injuries for stingray encounters.
