I'm looking at a 700gl Acrylic tank but am also wanting to know the best way to go relative to pumps/filter. I have 3 Fluval fx5's but with the cut outs on the tank I assume they're useless to use? Could I use those the fluvals differently for this size tank or bag em?

Thanks in advance.

Seems to me the plumbing can be adapted but would three fx5 be enough for a 700gal tank???

Is that your "bed-tank" in your avatar? Got a bigger picture of it?

I set up a 450 about a year ago and I went with the combination of canister filters (FX5's in your case) and a sump/overflow system. It seems to work great. I set up the canisters to push/pull water from the lower areas. This seems to keep the sand on the bottom of the tank clean by stirring up the lower parts of the tank and providing crystal clear mechanical filtration. The sump/overflow system provides some mechanical filtration with the added mega bio filtration and extra water capacity where I can hide my heaters.

IMO: I would keep the FX5's as a supplement to a primary sump/overflow filter. If your just going with one filter, go with the sump/overflow type. That's the most efficient type of filtering for larger tanks.

No overflows just 5 holes drilled on the bottom. Was wondering if I did a planted tank (5 feet deep) if that would even be an option relative to major lighting, depth - I haven't really seen a planted tank that deep - fresh water.

I don't have the tank but was thinking about buying it but am also torn with a 500gl from GlassCages.com. That footprint on the 48 wide is pretty sick and cleaning wouldn't be an issue.

Sorry no pics as I don't have it...yet:popcorn:

Yeah, 5 feet is very deep for plants. I'm sure it could be done but the powerful light will give off a lot of heat. You would need a chiller for sure. It's possible if ya want to put the $$$ into it.
Personally I would go with the 500 from glass holes. Better foot print for fish IMO.
