hello, I built a 700 gallon - 8' 6'' x 4' x 3' - with 2x4's and plywood. there is a 45 mil epdm liner in this tank. the tank was built to winter the fish as my wife does not like to leave them outside in the big pond. last year I built a glass tank approximately 70 gallons, however, this is too small this year. the frame is not constructed like a wall and the 2x4's are flat around the diameter of the tank. I doubled up on the 2x4's, bottom, middle and top, 16 inches apart. I have a bow in the center of the 8' wall on the front of the tank about 2''. I am concerned about this and am wondering if this is normal for wooden tanks, as this is my first one. I know this is very strong and won't break, just wondering how to keep the 8' wall straight for peace of mind. I work in construction and do not like to see this bowing. I plan to drain some of the water this weekend and reinforce the front with 4x4's and lag bolts.
this is a great site, I used a member's design and it was a much larger tank than mine. I wonder if bowing was an issue for them or not.
