well, I finally got around to getting on with the big (for me) tank and stand. First thing was to frame up the stand. It cost me $10 so far in screws and the rest was lying around from previous projects.

I need to add some bracing of some sort (I think/assume?) and then the shelf and top can go on then it's on to resealing the glass tank. The footprint of the tank is 1520mm x 760mm and the stand is 590mm high. It means I'll be able to reach into the tank without needing a step ladder and can sit and watch the action from a comfy chair.

Any suggestions on how to brace this or if it's even necessary? the legs are 100 x 100 (or 4 x 4 in ye olde measurements :))

you should be fine. do you plan on wrapping it with ply or other wood. that would surely add the extra strength and support from wobbling back and forth

I hadn't planned to wrap it at all for now as it's staying in the basement/workshop but I've just found a great deal on plywood so I might grab a couple more sheets of that and go with it.

Haven't wrapped / braced it yet but will do before the water goes in. I also didn't get any pics with the ply shelving in place before I re-built the tank but here it is with the tank on top with the new silicon drying.

The ruler/level is 4' or 1220mm for reference.
