Well here goes nothing. I've been browsing a few forums, but this one seems most active.

72 Gallon Bowfront
PFS substrate

This is my first tank and venture into being and aquarist. I originally planned on buying a new 29-30 gallon with stand from PetSmart but found this deal from a friend. Picked up for $200. It came with all kinds of stuff (tank, stand, light, lids, 3 nets, emperor 400, gravel vac, 3 heaters, air pump, two unopened airstones, and a host of other tidbits)

Here it is in our dining room. I removed the blue background I did. I'll try again with a black background as soon as I do a WC and it's more easily moved.

Upgraded to a FluVal 405 in two days because I couldn't stand the noise the Emperor 400 made. and it's nice to have the tank closer to the wall along with silence. All I can hear now is my air pump.

Added some rocks we had in our landscaping. I boiled and soaked them for a day.

Got a little piece of driftwood from fleabay. Thought it was going to be bigger, oh well. It's still a neat piece of wood. Boiled and soaked before putting in the tank. I tied a java fern to it and it's being anchored by a rock as you can see.

Lastnight I setup a DIY LED Moonlight mod. 5 LEDs in series with 12V power supply. Looks really neat at night.

So that's where I'm at after 6 days. No movement on the fishless cycle. Still 0/0/4ppm water temp 78 and added one bottle of bio spira. It probably didn't help I changed the filter after two days.

Here's my tentative plans for a final stock list. I would like some more fish in there. I don't want too much of a bioload shock at first though. I'll probably do these in half and half a few weeks apart.

Will shrimp bother cory cats? Or vice versa?

a friendly community. Danios, Tetras, Rasboras, Cory cats, cherry barbsMaybe some FW shrimp. I posted my aqadvisor list above, maybe you can't see it? I'm sure my numbers are off. I just can't picture the size of the fishies in my head after only browsing the local big box stores. I'm sure I'll change my numbers as I go.

Welcome to the hobby. Are your plants live or fake? The reason I ask is that with the anubias will not do well if it's rhizome is buried.
Looks good, keep us posted.

Hey nice tank, I also have a 72 gallon bowfront. they are nice tanks with lots of space. Real plants would probably make a nice addition aswell as if you were planning on getting shrimp would be very beneficial for them. Im very impressed with your knowledge of the nitrogen cycle and your open mindedness about stock. good job

Nice! I really loved the idea of the bowfront and finally found one locally. I wanted something more unique than a standard tank yet something I didn't have to build myself. I have three real plants so far. I have one of each, java fern, anubias, and amazon sword. I plan to replace all/most of the fake plants with real as time goes on.
