Hey Everybody,

I've been thinking about a custom canopy for the bowfront and such then I realize why not I save the money on a custom canopy and just get a larger aquarium!

I just wanted to know if my 33 gallon sump would be good enough for a 90 gallon tank, what do you guys think?

Also I want to start this 90 gallon tank right free from pests (aiptasi's) and cycled correctly.

Should I place all of the water from my 72 gallon into this tank and my live rocks as well as sand?

Also does anyone know of any stores that would sell the whole set up (90 gallon tank, stand and canopy for cheap?

Thanks for the input

Your sump should be fine since it will still be ⅓ of the volume of your aquarium; just be sure to watch the water parameters when increasing your stock in order to make sure that it can keep up with new additions.

I would use new sand for sure because disturbing the sand bed creates all sorts of problems when you transfer it; you can use some of the old sand for seeding purposes. You can use your old live rock if you want & don't mind having non-matching rocks; I would use dry rock for the new rock. I wouldn't transfer all of the water rather I would just acclimate the current stock to the new conditions.

As for finding the whole setup, try one of the chain pet stores as they sometimes have good deals on whole setups; PetSmart is usually pretty good for that type of thing.

+1 chain petstores usually carry complete setups for a slightly cheaper price than buying everything separate (if they dont have one on hand they can order one in for you). I got my 120 from a chain here in canada called big als. I got my tank, canopy, lights and stand all together.

Thanks for the info, I would like to use some of my rocks and water however I have aiptasi in the tank do you think if I put all of the water into my new 90 the aiptasi would transfer? As for the rocks I may sell them all in order to purchase dry rock...or since they are expensive I will keep them and just deal with the aiptasi.

Ok thanks for the info will look in lfs around me for prices.

I would just start over with dry rock & new water and treat your current rock for the Aiptasia as there may be "spores" in the water from the Aiptasia as well as adults on the rock. Dry rock is pretty cheap, so you might be able to just buy all new rock & cycle the aquarium then transfer the livestock & treat the other aquarium for the Aiptasia before using the old rock.

Thanks for the info, do you know of a way to treat aiptasi anemones without nudibranches and peppermint shrimps? I was thinking maybe a few weeks with no lights....could be wrong.

If anything I'll just buy all dead rock...then few months into it grab a few pieces of nice purple rocks and seed them...

Thanks

You could try this method if there's nothing close to them.

Thanks the info, read it seems like a good idea. However like you've mentioned I'm probably gonna start brand new....new dry rock from bulkreefsupply as well as new sand, but the sand I will purchase the "Live Sand."

The only problem I will have is inspecting the coral for any hitchhikers...

Bagged "live" sand is a colossal waste of money; just get plain dry aragonite sand, and you'll be good to go. If you mean the "live sand" that has to be shipped overnight, then it will work, but it's pretty pricey, too.

I know which bag your talking about, I've seen them posted in sigs and such...I was gonna use it as away as jump starting the cycle, becuase I've read in the sigs of members like fleshy saying that everything is dead...

however I forgot about the price situation, so yeah I will go with what you said...that was the name I was looking for thank you.

I hope I get this system going in the summer
